The Chief Psychiatrist provides strategic clinical leadership for psychiatric services in a correctional facility, promoting a patient-centered care culture and clinical excellence.

  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams including psychologists, medical staff, social workers, correctional officers, and inmate programming personnel.
  • Leads psychiatric providers, manages caseloads, oversees medication management, and develops treatment plans.
  • Serves as an expert witness for court-ordered treatments and maintains detailed electronic health records.
  • Supervises hiring, performance, and clinical supervision of mid-level providers, ensuring quality care and operational efficiency.
  • Partners with leadership to plan, evaluate, and improve clinical services, creating evidence-based protocols.
  • Supports professional development by conducting educational seminars and participating in key clinical committees.
  • Acts as a public representative, fostering community partnerships and promoting mental health initiatives.
  • Requires a medical degree, Texas medical license, board certification in psychiatry, and extensive clinical and supervisory experience, preferably with correctional or forensic populations.
  • Preferred skills include forensic and addiction certification, bilingual abilities, and knowledge of trauma-informed care, legal standards, and healthcare technology.
  • Physical demands involve lifting, communication, and exposure to health hazards.
  • Work hours are Monday-Friday with on-call duties, located in Austin, TX.
